Nature, local produce and heritage around the gîte

In the heart of nature
The gîte stands in a natural area close to the Orgues d'Ille-sur-Têt, a protected geological site of striking rock pillars. Many walking and mountain-bike routes start right from the gîte.

An ideal location Ille-sur-Têt lies at the geographical centre of the Pyrénées-Orientales: 30 minutes from the Mediterranean coast, 50 minutes from the Pyrenees and 30 minutes from the Spanish border. On a day trip you can visit Collioure, Cadaqués, the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres, or even the Principality of Andorra. The neighbouring Aude department offers the Roman heritage of Narbonne, the medieval city of Carcassonne and the Cathar castles.

Outstanding heritage within 20 km of the gîte
Discover major cultural sites from many periods of history (Prehistory, Romanesque, Baroque).
The Têt valley is also home to fortified towns built by Vauban and listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, such as Villefranche-de-Conflent, as well as several small villages of traditional southern architecture listed among “The Most Beautiful Villages of France” (Castelnou, Eus, Évol…).

Catalan local produce
In Ille-sur-Têt, 4 km from the gîte, local shops and craftspeople will help you find produce sold direct from the makers (fruit, vegetables, honey, charcuterie…).
Besides the town's two weekly markets, there are many local markets in the surrounding villages.
Many wine estates lie within 10 minutes of the gîte, perfect for discovering the wines of Roussillon.

Perpignan, the Catalan capital
Plan your own visit to Perpignan, the largest town in the Pyrénées-Orientales, for its heritage, local food and Catalan crafts.
